Decades ago, an event known as 'The Quiet Rapture' caused every known star and habitable planet to vanish, leaving the remnants of humanity stranded on space stations and starships. With resources dwindling, survivors desperately search a universe of barren moons for anything to sustain them. A strange anomaly has been discovered on one such moon: an entire ocean of blood. Guest is a convict who has been tasked with piloting a small, makeshift submarine nicknamed 'The Iron Lung' to explore the depths of this blood ocean and uncover its secrets.

The protagonist is Guest, a convict who has been selected for a dangerous, likely one-way mission. As an expendable asset, Guest's life is of little value to the authorities who have sent them on this task.
