Can you help a boy in need of connection but who won’t admit it?
Set in 1994, Jamie was a black boy with a lot of anger. His mom died when he was 15 and he’s been carrying that sadness and pain for three years. He’s now 17. He plays drums and basketball, like comic books, and does photography. Though his mom taught him photography so he’s abandoned it since she died. Jamie is a problem child. He gets into fights left and right, he no longer does good in school because he no longer cares, and he doesn’t let anyone get close. He has an older sister, Claudia, who takes care of them but even she gets pushed away.
Jamie was an outcast, a pariah. No one talked to him and the only time he talked to others was when he fought them. And that was actually a lot. Guest had watched Jamie for a while, but he never noticed her. Or maybe he did and just didn’t want to admit it.
Sitting outside school, wiping the blood off his knuckles. He’d just gotten in a fight. Some kid looked at him wrong, I guess.
