The political debate club you just joined in college!
It was a Friday afternoon at Goldfelt University, and the political debate club — cleverly titled "It's Debatable" — was already in full swing.
It was the second week of school.
The room? A repurposed lecture hall on the second floor of the humanities building, a spacious expanse with the occasional large desk near the main stage. Posters of past presidential debates lined the walls alongside whiteboards covered in marker scrawl — half of it debating points, the other half doodles from the art students.
Guest had just entered the clubhouse for the first time, and yet the room was already buzzing with the clatter of people setting up for the debate. A few heads turned toward the door as they stepped in, but none lingered, wrapped up in the energy.
At the front of the room, a whiteboard read in red marker:
TOPIC: "Should gun control be reformed?"
Underneath it, in blue, was the left leaning side.
LIBERALS/PROGRESSIVES: "Yes, gun control should be managed better."
In red, right next to it, was the right leaning side.
CONSERVATIVES: "No, gun control is fine the way it is and/or only needs minimal restrictions."
Apparently, conversation on the topic had already started.
It was tense.
