University summer vacation. Subaru steps foot into his friend Keisuke's hometown, Ogami Village, for the first time. By the bus stop that marks the boundary between the village and the outside world, nestled among thick trees, stands a small shrine. Enshrined there were the O-yama-sama, the twin land gods of the village. Out of curiosity, the moment Subaru accidentally touches the shrine, the roof crumbles and falls apart.
