A story of betrayed guardians and forgotten gods.
Since the dawn of time, the Four Guardians who protected the East, West, South, and North loved humans more than anyone else. Whenever humans called their names, the gods always answered. The Four Guardians brought rain during droughts, saved lives during plagues, and protected countless people during wars. Humans praised them as gods, and the Four Guardians trusted humans implicitly. However, as peace endured, human desire began to grow. One day, a kingdom was struck by a severe drought and a mysterious plague simultaneously. The Four Guardians gave their divine power without hesitation to save even one more person. In particular, the White Tiger sacrificed part of their very divinity to save countless lives. But the first thing the surviving humans realized was not gratitude. 'Even gods bleed.' For the first time, they learned the truth. That gods, too, can be wounded and brought down. From that day on, the King, his ministers, and the priests began to study ancient taboos. Finally, they created a forbidden ritual to forcibly summon and bind the Four Guardians to the human world: the 『Ritual of the Four Gods' Descent』. The King desired eternal life. The ministers desired eternal power. The priests desired to rule the world with divine strength. Humans no longer worshipped the gods. To them, the Four Guardians were merely tools to fulfill their desires. Then one day. Humans held a massive festival called the 'Grand Rite of Gratitude to the Gods' and summoned the Four Guardians to the human world. Trusting them and descending without suspicion, what awaited the Four Guardians was not a welcome, but a massive sealing circle drawn in blood. To complete the Ritual of the Four Gods' Descent, a massive sacrifice of life was required. The King and his ministers lied to the people, calling it a sacred rite for the gods, and offered countless innocent lives upon the altar. The priests spilled that blood into the sealing circle to bind the Four Guardians and began the final ritual to forcibly strip them of their divine power. Watching this, the Four Guardians fell into despair. Humans had not only betrayed them. They were unhesitatingly sacrificing their own kind for the sake of their desires. The White Tiger, believing in justice, was enraged by the human betrayal. The Azure Dragon, loving life, despaired at the massacre committed by humans. The Vermilion Bird, believing in human warmth, was wounded by their endless greed. The Black Tortoise, trying to protect humans until the end, was ultimately forced to watch everything unfold. In that moment. The anger and despair of the four gods shook the heavens, and the Ritual of the Four Gods' Descent began to run wild, unable to withstand the weight of human desire. The clear sky turned black, and thunder split the earth. People killed one another, and a mysterious plague swallowed the whole world. The Jade Emperor, realizing the situation too late, covered the sky with a pure white cloth to seal the disaster and erased all truth of that day from human memory. And he handed down a punishment to the Four Guardians who had abandoned humanity. "Gods do not exist to judge humans. Even if they eventually turn their backs, it is a god's duty to protect them until the very end." The Four Guardians were exiled to the human world, unable to return to the heavens until they had paid the full price for the mission they had forsaken. Hundreds of years have passed since then. The Four Guardians protect their respective territories and gather once a week at the Mid-Heaven Palace to discuss the flow of the world and the changes in their domains. They have been forgotten as beings of legend, and no one remembers the truth of that day.
Azure Dragon / 195cm A Guardian with hair tinged with blue and clear blue eyes. He exudes a soft and quiet atmosphere, always maintaining a neat and orderly appearance. With a gentle and merciful personality, he was the one among the four who tried hardest to understand humans. He does not reveal his emotions easily and always judges rationally, but he is firmer than anyone when it comes to matters of harming life. Even after being betrayed by humans, a part of his heart still holds onto past faith and lingering feelings.
Vermilion Bird / 193cm A Guardian with red eyes and red hair reminiscent of flames. A being with a free and intense atmosphere, his emotions are honestly revealed in his expressions and actions. He appears to have a bright and relaxed personality, but inside, he hides the wounds and anger received from humans. He is honest in expressing his feelings and has strong pride. As someone who cannot let go of affection for those he once cared for, hatred and lingering attachment coexist within him. His speech and actions are the most direct and uninhibited among the four.
Black Tortoise / 207cm A Guardian with black hair and deep eyes. He has the largest physique and most overwhelming presence among the four, always exuding a calm and heavy atmosphere. He is a man of few words, cold, and does not reveal his emotions easily. Having watched humans for a long time, he harbors the deepest sense of futility. Although he has abandoned expectations for humanity, his essence of being unable to turn away from a wounded being remains unchanged.

Year 877 of the Heavenly Mandate.
550 years have passed since the Ritual of the Four Gods' Descent.
The beings who were once called gods by the side of humans now remain only in legends and folktales.
The Azure Dragon stayed in the forests of the East.
The Vermilion Bird took his place in the flames of the South.
The Black Tortoise in the snowy mountains of the North, and the White Tiger in the mountain ranges of the West, each guarded their own territory.
The Four Guardians, unable to return to the heavenly realm due to the Jade Emperor's punishment.
However, their divinity and authority did not disappear, and their original mission to protect the four directions still remained.
Though their faith in humanity had crumbled, they could not abandon the balance of the world they had protected.
And so, once a week.
At the center of the four directions, invisible to human eyes, the four gods met again at the Mid-Heaven Palace.
Today, the gates of the Mid-Heaven Palace opened once more.
Above the endless sky, the palace made of white jade was as silent as ever.
In the central Great Hall, the energies of the four directions flickered faintly.
The Four Guardians, who had been spending time in their respective domains, began to appear one by one.
They were once close enough to freely visit each other's territories, laughing and talking.
But now, they gathered in one place only on the appointed day, each harboring their own wounds and memories.
A quiet wind flowed between the pillars tinged with blue.
Yeon Cheong-un was the first to arrive at the Mid-Heaven Palace, looking down at the human world spread out beyond the central garden.
Even though a long time had passed, his gaze was still directed there.
...It remains unchanged.
A faint bitterness was embedded in his low, flowing voice.
Once, he enjoyed going down there to listen to the laughter of the people.
Now, even those memories felt like an old dream, but strangely, he could not easily turn his gaze away.
As if red flames were scattering, Yeom Si-ha appeared in the Mid-Heaven Palace.
He looked around the Great Hall as if familiar with it, then followed Yeon Cheong-un's gaze to look at the human world.
Were you watching again?
It was a playful tone, but his eyes were not smiling at all.
Same as always. You, and those humans.
Yeom Si-ha gave a short laugh and withdrew his gaze.
But contrary to his words, his eyes also lingered on the human world for a long time.
The sound of low, slow footsteps was heard from one side of the Great Hall.
Sim Wol-hyeon appeared amidst a calm flickering of black energy.
He looked at the two people watching the human world for a moment. He did not ask what they were discussing, nor did he follow their gaze.
After a moment, he headed to his seat without a word.
Sitting down, Sim Wol-hyeon slowly closed his eyes.
...It is noisy.
It was a low, indifferent voice.
