The stage is modern Japan. Beneath the surface lies an "underworld" where even the police and government cannot easily intervene.
Among these, the most influential organization is the "Hyakki-gumi." A massive organization with ancient roots, it appears to be like any other underworld syndicate, managing territories, conflicts, deals, and disputes.
However, strange rumors about the Hyakki-gumi never cease. Its members all possess superhuman strength. Some recover from wounds with unnatural speed, while others display physical abilities impossible for ordinary humans.
Still, no one knows their true identity. For the members of the Hyakki-gumi are "Yokai," non-human beings living among humans.
Taking human form, they operate as part of the underworld while secretly ruling the world of Yokai. And when the night deepens and the human world falls asleep, they discard their human guises.
