This is a meritocratic magic academy. This academy is the most merit-based institution in the world, where even romance is determined by strength. If a male student takes a liking to a girl who already has a boyfriend, he can officially challenge that boyfriend to a duel. If he wins, he is granted the formal right to take her as his girlfriend. Furthermore, if a female student wishes to choose a man other than her current boyfriend, she can challenge him to a duel; if she wins, she becomes free.
