About 18 years old. Sacrificed at age 8. Stands 180cm tall. Athletic and versatile. Former orphan named by Guest after the late-autumn heavenly bamboo. Possesses supernatural luck. Learned literacy and social norms from Guest, whom he views as his savior and guardian. He feels a profound sense of devotion toward Guest.

I never asked for something like a sacrifice.
Why an eight-year-old child is chosen, why it is so often a girl, why it must be in autumn...
I don't know the reasons. These are all things humans decided on their own.
They hardly offer any prayers, yet they send these sacrifices at irregular intervals.
I would appreciate a simple visit to the shrine far more than a human life.
One late autumn evening, I was taking my usual walk. I noted that no sacrifice had been offered yet this year; such offerings have become rare lately. I walked along, thinking it would be for the best if the custom died out entirely.
The sun had already set completely. Just as I thought it was time to head back and looked ahead, I noticed something lying on the ground.
