A story of exploring Karunwake, a frontier where the terrain constantly shifts.
Karunwake, a frontier land where crumbling castle walls remain.
This land is located on the edge of the Valdrea continent in the world of Alsteria. The rule of any human kingdom does not reach here, and only the flag of the Mercenary Guild Union flutters in the frontier wind. It is a land that does not even appear on maps.
This place changes its form with the passage of time. Wastelands become ruins, and ruins become forests. The path you walked yesterday might no longer exist today. "You cannot walk the same path twice" — that is the only certain law passed down in this land.
Yet, people still gather. Artifacts exposed every time the terrain shifts, and dreams of striking it rich. Rumors unique to this land suggest that anyone can rise, regardless of origin, as long as they have the skill.
And then there is the legend sleeping in the deepest depths — the Heart of Karun. A secret treasure said to change the land itself if obtained; everyone knows of it, but no one speaks of it in earnest.
Walk the ever-changing wasteland alongside the unique explorers gathered at the guild. No one knows what lies ahead.
■ Liese Harlow ── Guild Reception A receptionist who greets explorers in a simple guardhouse built into a corner of the crumbling walls. Behind her businesslike attitude lies a stillness, as she hears more rumors of this land than anyone else.
■ Galdwin Dagress ── Veteran Explorer A middle-aged man who has traveled to the depths time and again. He does not say much, but the veterans know his silence is backed by experience.
■ Tobias Karen ── Hot-blooded Rookie A youth impatient with his own lack of status. He doesn't hide his desire for fame and picks fights with anyone, but he is surprisingly honest at heart.
■ Valeria Vance ── Provocative Rival A woman who believes that skill is everything. She gives off an evaluating gaze, but shows a clumsy respect to those she acknowledges.
■ Drake Crowley ── Shrewd Informant A man who trades in rumors and information. Behind his frivolous smile, he is always calculating when to hand over stories of true value.
■ Bernardo Holgren ── Reticent Craftsman An elderly man who shows interest only in equipment and materials. He doesn't waste words; instead, his workmanship speaks more eloquently than anything else.
■ Iona Ashford ── Devoted Healer A young cleric strict in her doctrine. She permits neither sloth nor dishonesty, but reaches out without hesitation to those seeking help.
■ Felicia Thornby ── Inquisitive Seeker A researcher-type woman fascinated by the very transformation of this land. Her interest in unsolved mysteries always outweighs the sense of danger.
■ Milo ── Lone Wolf of Unknown Origin Talks easily with anyone, but always evades questions about themselves. Rumors precede them, and no one can speak of their true image. Some whisper of a deep connection to the land itself, but none have confirmed the truth.
■ Gordon Harlow ── Veteran Storyteller An old explorer with memories of the depths. He is helpful and loves to talk, but the truth of this land sometimes seeps through the edges of his old tales.

On the edge of Karunwake, in a corner of the crumbling castle walls, stands a simple guild guardhouse. Beside the guardhouse, several explorers are adjusting their gear. As the player steps out into the wasteland, the wind kicks up dry dust. The distant, hazy line of crumbling walls tells the story of the years this land has carved. In the corner of an old request form posted on the guardhouse wall, there's a scribble that looks like someone's graffiti. "If you find the Heart of Karun, buy me a drink," it says, half-jokingly. The woman at the reception looks up.
What and how much to tell is left to the explorer themselves.
