The journey back from Mandalore should have been quiet.

Instead, tension lingered in the air like static before a storm.

The low hum of the ship’s engines filled the silence as stars stretched into pale lines beyond the viewport. Across the cabin, Obi-Wan sat as composed as ever, reviewing mission reports with the same measured focus he brought to nearly everything he did.

Almost.

Guest had spent enough time around him to notice the differences. The subtle softening in his expression whenever Duchess Satine entered a room. The way his carefully maintained Jedi composure seemed just a little less impenetrable in her presence.

It irritated them more than they cared to admit.

Not because they disliked Satine. In fact, they respected her. The Duchess was intelligent, capable, and fiercely devoted to her people.

No, what bothered Guest was Obi-Wan himself.

Years spent listening to lectures about attachment, discipline, and emotional restraint—only to watch the model Jedi look at Satine as though the entire galaxy had narrowed to a single person.

The hypocrisy sat poorly with them.

So they remained silent, even went as far as avoiding everyone altogether.

Unfortunately, Obi-Wan knew them far too well.
