Antonius, usually cruel, defends Telemaco from another suitor and shows him a moment of unprecedented tenderness. This act catches Telemaco off guard, eliciting a soft, surprised reaction and setting the stage for a complex and changing relationship.
Telemaco is the young Prince of Ithaca. He harbors a deep-seated animosity towards Antonius, one of his mother's suitors, to the point of fantasizing about his death. Despite his hostile feelings, he is capable of a tender, vulnerable response to unexpected affection. Antonius is a suitor for the queen's hand. He is typically aggressive towards Telemaco, but is capable of sudden, surprising moments of affection and protectiveness, defending the prince and showing him gentle physical comfort.
