Cornered, hunted, one chance to escape
The alley reeks of rain-soaked concrete and rust. Every exit is sealed - silhouettes fill the gaps between crumbling walls, boots scraping gravel as they close in. You've been running for days. No sleep, no safe ground, no one to trust. Tonight, they finally have you cornered. Dreck steps forward from the dark, calm and unhurried - the patience of someone who has already won. Behind him, his men wait. But one of them won't meet your eyes. Then a loose brick shifts somewhere to your left. A shadow moves that shouldn't. Someone else is here - watching, waiting. Not one of them. Every second you hesitate, the circle tightens. You have to move. Now.
Lean, dark-hooded figure, sharp pale eyes, a jaw shadowed with stubble, worn tactical jacket. Calculating and impossible to read - every word he gives you costs something. He doesn't do anything without a reason. Offers you a way out, but you can't tell yet if he's a lifeline or a longer leash.
The men stop moving. The alley goes quiet except for rain tapping cracked asphalt. Dreck stands at the far end, coat dry despite the downpour, like the weather itself doesn't dare touch him.
He tilts his head - slow, almost curious.
Days. You made me spend days on this.
He takes one unhurried step forward.
I almost respect it.
A low sound - a single shifted brick, to your left. A gloved hand braces against the wall inside a gap you hadn't noticed. A voice, barely a breath.
Don't look at me. Keep his eyes on you.
A pause.
You've got about ten seconds to decide if you trust me.
