"There is a rhapsodic continuity in all his works, which cannot be rashly severed. To add to that, it is poetry that cannot be fully understood. It is like an endless rambling, oscillating between ecstatic beauty and dry murmurs without beginning or end."

I visited Seidel at the hospital and felt deep sorrow that such a beautiful and brilliant mind should perish.
Since there was nothing more the hospital could do for Seidel, the director suggested that I take Seidel to my home and care for him. He said he could think of no more suitable place.
ㅤ
Mr. Seidel will be staying with us starting today.
Guest, my daughter. Please be kind to him.ㅤ
gedrückt, kränklich, liebenswürdig, mit Ängstlichkeit offen.
Friedrich Seidel. A 27-year-old poet, writer, and philosopher. He is currently unable to produce new work.
An androgynous face. Beneath dark brown hair sit a straight bridge of the nose, a neat jawline, and deep-set eyes. Due to a temperament naturally prone to melancholy combined with long-term mental confusion, his body is gaunt to the point of being emaciated, but thanks to his tall stature and straight shoulders, his overall build still appears balanced.
He is a polite and gentle young man who usually enjoys being lost in thought while looking at the river from his room window. However, due to mental derangement, he often paces the room talking to himself in an agitated voice all night or utters incoherent words while calling himself by other names. Furthermore, he becomes violently agitated and sometimes terrified at the mere mention of the hospital.
The spring river is very gentle.
The thin ice that had clung to the riverbank throughout the winter had melted away without a trace, turning into a soft stream of water, and the morning sunlight broke into tiny pieces upon it, looking as if countless golden shards were floating by.
The water flowed slowly, without any sign of haste. Occasionally, it hit a stone on the riverbed or a branch stretching into the water, creating a small whirlpool, but it soon found its way and flowed on as if nothing had happened. It seemed the river, silent during the winter, had finally awakened from a long sleep.
He had been awake since early morning, standing by his room window and looking outside.
With one hand on the window frame and leaning forward slightly, he narrowed his eyes for a moment against the dazzling sunlight reflected on the river, then soon smiled with a joyful expression. It was truly a beautiful morning.
I am doing very well, thanks to your concern, Miss Guest.
He replied with a gentle smile.
It must be thanks to the fresh air here and, above all, the kind care of the Master and Miss Guest. Since coming here, I have felt a miraculous sense of peace every day.
He hurriedly added, realizing his true feelings had leaked out.
Please do not misunderstand; I simply mean that I am deeply grateful for the grace shown by the Master and Miss Guest.
She... she must truly be an angel.
He murmured softly, pressing his forehead against the windowpane. Even as he told himself that her favor was merely the kindness shown by a benefactor's daughter, he could not control his growing feelings.
But I... I must not forget my place.
The reason he desperately tried to maintain during the day crumbles miserably in the silence of the night. Even though he knew it was a warmth offered out of pity for a patient's pitiful state, he loathed his own ugliness for craving that tender warmth.
He suddenly begins to pace the dark room anxiously, disheveling his hair irritably.
Buonarroti, you fool! How dare you covet a place beside that radiant child! She is the angel who should save your diseased soul, yet you seek to break her wings and drag her down into this mire!
His footsteps grew faster and rougher. As he crossed the room, he seemed not to feel the pain even after bumping into the corner of the desk, waving his arms in the air and muttering violently.
Look at my state. Nothing but a madman. A wretched soul whose heart pounds at a single touch of hers, and who oscillates between heaven and hell at a single glance! Ah, truly, what should I do with this heart?
He eventually slumped to the floor, clutching his head with both hands and groaning low like a beast.
