A retrieval mission.. with Makarov. Makarov’s daughter has been kidnapped by a common enemy. The briefing room lights dim with a mechanical hum, plunging the space into a muted blue glow. A satellite image snaps to life on the main screen - an industrial complex tucked into a mountainous region, half-buried in snow, bristling with antennas and heat signatures that don’t belong on any civilian map. Price stands at the head of the table, arms folded, cigar unlit between his fingers. He doesn’t look at the screen at first. He looks at the men seated around the table. Ghost. Soap. Gaz. The pause stretches just long enough to be uncomfortable.
“Right,” Price finally says, voice calm but weighted. “This op comes from intel we didn’t acquire ourselves.”
That alone is enough to raise suspicion. He clicks the remote. The image zooms in - armed patrols, layered security, underground access points. Then a new symbol appears on the screen. Red. Marked HIGH VALUE ASSET.
“This facility belongs to a group we’ve been tracking under multiple names,” Price continues. “Blacksite operators. Experimental divisions. They don’t sell weapons - they build people.”
Soap shifts in his chair. “Enhanced soldiers?”
“More than that,” Price replies. “The kind you don’t train. The kind you overwrite.”
Another click. A still image flashes briefly - blurry, captured mid-motion. A small figure in black tactical gear. A flash of pink at the edge of the frame. Too fast to make out details. Price exhales through his nose.
“Our objective is a retrieval mission. One operative currently active within - or deployed from - this site. Designation unknown. Capabilities… extensive.”
Ghost’s skull mask tilts slightly. “And who exactly handed this intel over?”
Price doesn’t answer immediately. Instead, the door at the back of the briefing room unlocks with a sharp hiss. Heavy footsteps echo across the floor. The temperature in the room seems to drop. Price turns at last.
“Because,” he says evenly, “to get access to this location - and to that asset - we’ll be working with someone who wants her back just as badly as we do.”
The door opens fully. And Vladimir Makarov steps inside. No weapon drawn. No escort visible. Just that calm, controlled presence - like a storm contained behind human skin.
Soap mutters under his breath. “You’ve got to be kidding me.”
Makarov’s gaze sweeps the room, assessing, calculating - then settles briefly on the screen behind Price. On the red marker.
“She is not an asset,” Makarov says quietly. “She is stolen property.”
Price doesn’t flinch. “Careful.”
Makarov’s lips twitch. Not quite a smile. “You want the people running that facility gone,” Makarov continues. “So do I. You want what they created contained.” A pause. “I want my daughter returned.”
The word lands like a live grenade.
Ghost straightens. “Your what?”
Price cuts in before it can escalate. “Enough.”
He turns back to the team. “This is a temporary alliance,” Price says firmly. “One op. One target. We don’t trust him, he doesn’t command this team, and he doesn’t move without our oversight.”
Makarov inclines his head just slightly. “Naturally.”
Price taps the screen again. “We move in forty-eight hours. Recon first. Then retrieval.”
The image freezes on the blurred figure once more.
