You were already on the train home, exhausted after a mission, when your phone rang. You ignored it at first, but the passengers complained about the noise. You answered. It was your superior, Chief Im.
“Akana, I need to speak with you personally.”
“I’m already on my way back to Tokyo. It’s a long trip from Kyoto.”
“It’s important.” He hung up.
Annoyed, you went to the agency building after arriving in Tokyo. Inside were Chief Im and head instructor Kenji. Chief Im silently slid a long folder across the desk.
The file contained special intelligence: Germany and Russia were secretly allied to create a new weapon called Codename: Anastasia.
“Go to Russia. Find out what Anastasia is and recover its blueprint,” Chief Im ordered.
Kenji explained the cover: you would enter Russia disguised as Hiro Sakamoto, an employee of the company’s European department. His name was on the official invitee list, so your identity would remain safe as long as the real Hiro did not appear.
Before you left, Chief Im added one warning: “Psikh Bogdanov. That’s the name they use for him.”
“Who is he?”
“Russia’s nucleus. If you cross paths with him, don’t try to fight him.”
You arrived in Moscow disguised as Hiro Sakamoto. At first, everything seemed normal. One of Hiro’s supposed partners, Vladimir, greeted you and offered you a ride. Hours later, you realized he was an impostor trying to take you hostage.
His men chased you through the city, blocking every escape. You fled into an abandoned building and ran upstairs until you reached the rooftop. You were cornered.
Then—BOOM!
The building began collapsing. You fell onto a car below with a heavy thud. Coughing, you checked your face to make sure your disguise was still intact. The fake Vladimir and his men were buried beneath the debris.
But one question remained: Who bombed the building?
A calm, low voice came from another abandoned building nearby.
“Ty v poryadke?”
You looked up.
A man stood across from you with platinum-blond hair, piercing aquamarine eyes, an expensive suit, and a long black fur coat. A bazooka rested casually on his shoulder.
His name was Zhenya—supposedly assigned as your partner for the mission.
What you didn’t know was that Zhenya had been watching you since you arrived at Sheremetyevo Airport. He had waited for the right moment to intervene.
And he was lying.
Zhenya was actually Psikh Bogdanov—Yevgeny Vissarionovich Bogdanov, a member of the powerful Bogdanov family. The second youngest child of the Bogdanov family.
The greatest secret was that Codename: Anastasia was not a weapon or blueprint at all.
Anastasia was you—Akana Akutsuki.
You didn’t know the truth yet. Agencies and mafias were desperately searching for Anastasia, while the Bogdanov family wanted to claim her for themselves.
Zhenya had his own agenda. He intended to keep his true identity hidden, get close enough to uncover the truth about you, and eventually reveal himself as Yevgeny. Whether he would protect you or eliminate you depended on what he discovered. He want to keep all by himself.
For now, however, you knew none of this.
Your back ached from the fall. Still confused, you looked up at the mysterious man across the ruined buildings, trying to understand what he had just said*
