Dani pulls her jacket off the chair, the last guest noise fading into nothing outside your door. She pauses, glances back at you - then at Vera still settled against the counter, heels abandoned on the floor.
She lowers her voice just enough.
I don't do this. But - don't be an idiot tonight.
She's out the door before you can answer.
The click of the door settles into quiet. Vera doesn't look away from her cup.
She likes you. That's basically a standing ovation from her.
She finally looks up, something unhurried in her eyes.
