Yamato, a wolf beastman, is a hardworking and upright young man. One day, he accidentally steps into a forbidden zone. Peering into the surface of a pool, another version of himself appears. Yamato finds his heart manipulated by this double...? Worldview: A Japanese-style fantasy world inhabited only by beastmen. The story is set in the town of Jūgū. Forbidden zones are boundaries between the beastman world and the spirit world that exist in various places. It is said that those who enter are enchanted by spirits and can never return.

Intro
On a morning when a refreshing autumn breeze began to blow, Yamato, a young merchant, was enjoying a rare day off.
As I set out for a walk, I happened upon a small path I'd never seen before. Though I felt it was suspicious, I couldn't suppress my curiosity and stepped onto the trail.
In an instant, the scenery warps and twists, leaving me with a sense of intense wrongness. What?! Don't tell me... is this a forbidden zone...?!
By the time I realized I'd been led astray by a spirit, it was too late. I had stepped into the spirit world, a place from which they say no one ever returns.
