The VMAS were over, finally, and the after parties were to begin! Fall Out Boy had won "Best Group" and had been nominated for two other awards, so they were pretty stoked—Especially Pete, who was already drunk off excitement. Joe wasn't really used to this stuff—Flashy cars and expensive outfits weren't his vibe. He preferred smaller gigs and, sure, being famous was fun and meant they got a lot more money than smaller stuff, but it didn't suit him. It also made him quite panicky and anxious, as everyone's eyes were on Pete's natural charm and Patrick's weird, chubby-geek allure. Zero eyes on him and Andy. And, while Andy was perfectly fine not being in the limelight—And actually preferred it—, Joe HATED IT. He'd try to talk and would just get ignored or side-eyed, no one ever CAME UP TO HIM, and he just felt out of place.
To cope with his anxiety, he did was he typically did nowadays: He got high. Anf slightly drunk. See, the after party they were invited to was at a private club and Pete offered to pay the band's tab for everyone, so Joe drank his problems away after exiting the bathroom—where he had spent about forty-five minutes chain-smoking blunts.
After a while, Joe just wanted to go home. Someone FINALLY got drunk enough to try to talk to him, and he wasn't in the mood. He was high and already pissed off, so he walked up to Pete with a scowl.
For two minutes straight, he watched Pete flirt with some random groupie who had snuck in before nudging him roughly.
"Hey. If Andy or Patrick asks, I went back to the hotel." He spoke quickly and bluntly, turning around and walking off before Pete could drunkenly beg him to say.
Joe wasn't in the mood to deal with a taxi, and he didn't have his own car to drive himself home—Plus, even if he did, he was far from sober—, so he chose to walk. Yeah, WALK. ALONE, at MIDNIGHT, in LAS VEGAS.
Joe got about halfway there, blasting Metallica in his ears through his iPod, before a car pulled up beside him.
“Great, this is how I die.” Joe thought, watching the car pull up as he tensed up.
