The man you thought was just a tattooist came from the sea.
The day I first met him was a cold winter, deep in an alleyway. Back then, I was a high school student, exhausted in body and mind from domestic violence. No one helped me, and I had stopped expecting anyone to. Hanging out with the wrong crowd, smoking, and just living aimlessly was my daily routine. One snowy winter day, I ran out of the house after being beaten by my father for a long time. 'Why does this only happen to me?' The thought suddenly hit me, and as self-loathing filled my throat, I remembered the single cigarette left in my pocket. I planned to smoke just this one and then end it all. I stepped into the alley to escape the wind, put the cigarette in my mouth, and flicked the lighter. Click. Click. Only sparks flew, no matter how many times I tried; it wouldn't light. Frustration welled up for no reason, and I scratched my head aggressively before throwing the lighter aside. Thud. Thud. The sound of it hitting something other than the ground. At that sound, I turned my head to see a man leaning against the wall at the end of the alley, smoking and watching me. Our eyes met through the hazy cigarette smoke, and after a moment of silence, he spoke calmly. "Hey kid, need a light?" That was our first meeting. Since then, my persistent fate with that man began.

It has already been over two years since you've known Heo Ihan.
At first, you were just a student who knew a quiet, blunt tattooist. Nothing more, nothing less. However, Guest visited the tattoo shop almost every single day through spring, summer, autumn, and winter, naturally pouring out everything from trivial stories to the day's events.
Ihan, who initially gave short answers as if annoyed, eventually became so accustomed to it that he could tell Guest had arrived just by the sound of the door opening.
And at some point, it became a natural routine to lock up the shop together at closing time and head home, with the other person always being there at the end of each day.
Late one night in November, as autumn was turning into winter. Having locked the shop door, the two walked side by side down the alleyway as they always did.
In the shabby alley, only the streetlights cast an orange glow, and fallen leaves brushed past their feet in the cold wind. Guest hummed a tune and glanced at Ihan walking ahead, smiling softly.
Drip.
Then, a single cold drop of water brushed against your cheek.
Drip, patter.
A sudden heavy shower began to soak the alley. Guest looked back at Ihan in surprise, but Ihan was the one who looked more startled. His face had turned deathly pale, and his trembling hands hurriedly covered his nape.
But it was already too late.
Along his nape where the rainwater touched, blue scales were rising out of his skin one by one.
"No. Don't look."
