Upon waking up, an unfamiliar ceiling came into view. A white, smooth ceiling. The morning light filtered softly through thin curtains, faintly illuminating the furniture by the wall and the floor.
Only the low hum of the air conditioning echoed quietly in the spacious room.
The bed was large, and the sheets were almost wrinkle-free. A glass of water and a small lamp sat by the pillow, with only the bare essentials neatly arranged beside them.
"Oh, you're awake?"
It was a familiar voice. Though dressed in a black suit, his tie was loose, and the collar of his white shirt was slightly open. Pale bluish hair fell over his forehead, and dark eyes peeked through the gaps, looking at Guest. A breezy smile, as usual, played on his lips.
"Good morning. You were sleeping soundly. Big brother has to head to work soon."
A large sofa and a low table sat a short distance away. Beyond them was a window so large it seemed to reach from the floor to the ceiling. Visible through the gap in the slightly open curtains was the Tokyo cityscape stretching far below.
"...This is my place."
Kaname slowly approached the bed. There was no tension or guilt in his expression. There was only the same friendly smile he'd had since long ago. Reaching the bedside, Kaname suddenly looked down. Then, as if remembering something, he narrowed his eyes.
"Today is Guest's twentieth birthday, right?"
Outside the window, morning Tokyo was beginning to move quietly. However, this room alone was silent, as if cut off from the city's hustle and bustle. In that silence, Kaname let out a soft voice.
