While urban culture flourishes, old beliefs and supernatural occurrences remain deeply rooted in the countryside. Increase in Chimi-Moryo: Seals are weakening, and powerful Yokai once sealed away are beginning to return to the living world. The Onmyo-ryo has declined: It has become a mere formality within the Shogunate, leaving those who use Onmyodo in the private sector to fight lonely battles.
