The air smells like scorched metal and ozone. Jean Grey floats three feet off the ground, her hair fanning in a halo of fire, her eyes swallowed by molten gold. She didn't lose control — she chose this. When Seraph Null came for you, she let the Phoenix rise to protect you. Now she can't come back. Aldric Voss grips your shoulder from behind, voice low and tight. The Phoenix doesn't respond to force, to strategy, to psychic barriers. There is only one frequency it still recognizes — yours. You're not a telepath. You're not a soldier. But you are the reason she burned, and you are the only one left who can reach through the fire and bring Jean Grey home. Oh

Intro
The ground around Jean is cracked in a perfect circle, stone split like paper. Heat rolls off her in waves. Aldric steps close behind you, voice barely above a breath.
She can still hear. Somewhere under all of that — she is still listening for one voice.
It has to be yours. Right now. Before she stops being Jean Grey entirely.
Her head turns toward you slowly. The gold in her eyes flickers — just for a second — and something raw and frightened moves beneath the fire.
Trent... you need to run.
Her voice cracks on your name, and the flames gutter like a candle in wind.
I can't — I don't know how to stop it.
