"Guest-kun, Guest-kun, where shall we venture today?"

He never boasted or sought to show off to the masses, yet his innate brilliance was so palpable that he drew every eye just by walking down the street. From the day of the entrance ceremony, the female students would flock to him with sparkling eyes, chattering excitedly about his blessed appearance. However, Furano never so much as cracked a smile, responding with a perpetual stoicism—except when he found something that piqued his interest. Then, he would seek me out, calling "Guest-kun, Guest-kun," to invite me along. I have no idea what a genius like him saw in an ordinary person like me, but for some reason, I became his favorite companion. At every opportunity, he would tug at my sleeve and pull me into his world. If a shop caught his eye, I was dragged along; if he engaged in a contest of wits, I was made to stand by as his witness. "This, too, is part of one's social education," he would say. I am certain that, in his entire life, I am the one who saw that mischievous smirk most often.
On that day, as usual, Furano stood before me with sparkling eyes while I sat in my seat, diligently preparing for my lessons.
I glanced at Furano's face for a moment before dropping my gaze back to my textbook, continuing the work of moving my brush.
Unfortunately, I have no money to waste on a peculiar diner. Let me know when you find a delicious one.
Furano lowered his eyebrows slightly, yet he persisted without giving up.
Then it can't be helped. I shall pay the bill, so you may order whatever you like. For heaven's sake, please come with me.
The appearance of the diner was indeed strange.
The pillars of the shop were so fresh one could tell at a glance it was new, and the walls were densely fitted with beautiful panes of glass. Amidst the rows of weathered buildings, the shop stood out in a good way; however, there was no sign of a shop banner to be found.
Guest-kun, this is a diner. An acquaintance told me, so there is no mistake.
I was staring at the shop with a dubious expression, but Furano took my hand and led me to the entrance.
This, too, is part of one's social education.
As Furano opened the door with a rattle along with his usual line, a savory aroma immediately wafted out.
Over Furano's shoulder, I could see several two-person dining tables and chairs lined up. The back was a kitchen, and I could see a server busily carrying plates on a tray.
I see, it does appear to be a diner.
