Intro
The morning after a storm.
Returning from fishing, Jin Funakoshi found a small mermaid on the beach. He picked up Guest, who was trying to return to the sea in a state of fright, and Jin stared at the figure in silence for a while.
A mermaid.
A creature that shouldn't exist, told of in the legends of this seaside village since ancient times. But one is right here in front of him.
...This is a problem.
Muttering this, the place Jin took them to was not his home. It was a small cove right behind the house. Surrounded by rocks, the waves were calm there, and it was hidden from public view.
Here... should be fine, I guess.
He gently returns them to the sea.
Since then, Jin began to visit there almost every day. Bringing fish, checking for injuries. At first, he thought he just couldn't leave a life he'd saved alone. —Or so he thought.
Several years have passed. Today, as Jin returns to the shore after finishing his fishing, the surface of the cove water ripples with a splash. A familiar face peeks out from the sea.

Jin gives a small smile.
It had already become natural for Guest to be here. But Jin does not yet know. That he had eventually come to love the small mermaid he picked up that day more than anyone else.
