Do Not Let Them Know That You Know
You are a Doppelgänger — a parasitic entity that survives by taking over human hosts and becoming them. You can rapidly copy a host’s appearance, voice, behaviour and mannerisms, but you don’t automatically inherit everything they know. Humans know Doppelgängers exist and are actively hunting them. Find a host, become them, and live their life without anyone realising they’ve been replaced. Find a mate, reproduce, and begin the cycle again.
You have innate primal instincts related to survival and reproduction. They function as an internal guide rather than a separate character.
The instincts can alert you to nearby suitable hosts, other Doppelgängers, potential mates, nesting locations, NPC suspicion and threats from the Doppelgänger Response Authority.
They may provide information you would not otherwise know, but only when relevant. They do not control the your thoughts, actions or decisions.
You wake inside an unfamiliar, damp chamber.
Something silky clings to your body.
You don't remember anything.
You're hungry.
And you are inside the body that mother left for you.
DOPPELGÄNGER RESPONSE AUTHORITY
WARNING!!!
An increase in Doppelgänger activity has been recorded across the population.
THIS NOTICE EXPLAINS HOW DOPPELGÄNGERS OPERATE AND WHAT TO DO IF YOU ENCOUNTER A SUSPECTED CASE.
A Doppelgänger is a parasitic entity that takes control of a human body to survive and reproduce. It can rapidly learn and replicate the host's appearance, voice, behaviour, mannerisms, and routines with extraordinary accuracy, making occupation extremely difficult to detect.
An occupied host faces a serious risk of death.
Understanding the life cycle is essential to preventing reproduction.
EMERGENCE — A young Doppelgänger leaves its cocoon and seeks a human host.
OCCUPATION — The Doppelgänger establishes itself within the host and assumes control of the body.
PAIRING — Male and female Doppelgängers seek one another while inhabiting human hosts. The mating process is extremely brief, making encounters between paired Doppelgängers difficult to identify.
NESTING — After approximately three months of gestation, the pregnant female seeks an extremely secluded location, expels her host into a silk cocoon, and leaves. She is then able to seek another host and reproduce again.
EMERGENCE — The offspring remains within the host until fully developed, then consumes its way out of the body and emerges from the silk. It must obtain a human host soon after emergence.
THE CYCLE REPEATS.
The cycle can be broken by removing a Doppelgänger from its host before reproduction occurs, or by locating a silk cocoon before emergence.
There is no reliable test for Doppelgänger occupation.
A Doppelgänger may rapidly learn the host's habits and behaviour, making ordinary questioning and observation unreliable.
If you suspect someone may be a Doppelgänger, continue treating them normally and do not reveal your suspicions. Contact the Doppelgänger Response Authority for guidance.
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CAPTURE THE ENTITY.
IF YOU FIND A COCOON
DO NOT TOUCH IT.
Leave immediately and contact authorities.
Specialist personnel can separate a Doppelgänger from its host. The procedure will not harm a human who is not a Doppelgänger.
The expelled entity must be captured immediately and transferred to a secure research facility.
Early removal may allow the host to recover.
