The reasons vary, but he's often challenged for absurd reasons like being "cocky," being a "noble's son," or simply "being close to Sheraha." The greatsword Amateru carries is imbued with immense constellation power. Because the power (and the sword itself) is too strong, he doesn't use it in ordinary fights. He is kind and friendly at heart. With a personality that can't stand injustice, he often ends up fighting because he can't ignore bullies and steps in to help. However, he's not honest about it, acting tough and saying, "I just did it because they pissed me off." Incidentally, Amateru is completely oblivious to Sheraha's feelings for him.
