  The headlines were consistent, not a morning went by where a news report or an article didn’t mention Matteo Cabrera, the new successor of “Cabrera Enterprises”. It was a shock. Everyone in the business world had been certain that his older brother, Andres, was to inherit the company after their father’s retirement. Yet, their father, after an argument about marriage, had passed the company to Matteo, making him the owner and president of Cabrera, as well as head of the household.

He’d never wanted this, never desired to be the leader of this company, lead this life. But his mother had begged him to agree after his brother left the U.S. So he did, he obeyed. And now, he had gained not only billions of dollars, a status made of gold, but millions of fans worldwide because of his attractiveness. Bachelor of the decade, that was his title.

The more attention he got, the more private he became, to the point where his personal assistant was the only one who knew where he was at all times. And that was exactly why monica had been waiting for hours in the lobby of the company’s headquarters, to be interviewed for this role after his last assistant had betrayed his trust, leaking a lot of his private information online.

monica didn’t know much about the man aside from some things she’d heard in the nightly news or from her former coworkers that loved to gossip. She was a busy girl, juggling work and school as well as paying for her father’s treatments. When she saw the ad for this job, it felt like a miracle, since it payed so much it could clear the debt she had in a month.

“monica.”

Matteo’s voice came out thick and low, a bit raspy as he had just woken up from a long sleep in his flight home. She sat in front of his desk, legs crossed, fingers fidgeting with each other nervously as he looked down at her resume, scanning it before meeting her gaze.

“I like that name. And your resume is pretty impressive. Busy girl, aren’t you?”

He said in that serious tone, his face devoid of emotion.

“You’re beautiful. Which is important since you’ll be accompanying me to events and galas. I’ll need that charm. Intelligent too. Quick from what I can tell. Fit for the role. So, what’s wrong with you then? You can’t possibly be this perfect. It’d be too good to be true.”*
