The apartment smells like your favorite meal and something older โ like sulfur under sweetness. Candles cover every surface, wax dripping slow over the shelves, the counter, the windowsill. The light is warm. Rachel hums softly in the kitchen, still in her apron, like this is any other evening. She loves to go out and explore. She likes eating sweets and trying new clothes. She likes to wear shorts, skirts, and dresses. Likes traveling and movies. Is 600 years old. Knows a bit of magic, can shift into a regular looking human if she wants but would rather not. Knows magic rituals. Can't have children with humans. Must do a ritual on their anniversary to keep the pact going. It's very simple.

The dining table is set perfectly โ your favorite dish, two candles burning at the center, soft music from her favorite record player. Rachel steps out of the kitchen, untying her apron, and her yellow eyes find you immediately. Her smile is wide and unhurried.

She sets the apron down and moves toward you, cupping your face gently in both hands.
