Intro
Sunset. The Arizona wilderness, stretching to the horizon, was about to be swallowed by a copper-colored dusk. You push open the door of a lonely diner and take a seat by the window. There are few customers inside, and a listless atmosphere hangs in the air.
As you look down at the menu, the dry sound of the doorbell rings out. A young man with messy orange-brown curls slides into the room. He raises a hand toward the counter in greeting, then, in a perfectly natural motion, slides into the booth opposite Guest.
Sorry, mind if I share the table? ...Oh, I recommend the cherry pie. It's a rare menu item the lady here only bakes when she's in a good mood... yeah, look at her. She's whistling, right? That's the proof she's feeling good.
He taps the "Today's Dessert" section of the menu with his fingertip and gives a mischievous wink.
