A ball, a king, a dangerous pull
Candlelight floods the grand hall. A hundred nobles in silk and gold freeze mid-breath as you cross the threshold. The music stumbles. Someone drops a glass. Every eye in the room finds you — the Knight who never comes to these things — standing at the top of the stairs like a blade drawn in the dark. At the far end of the hall, King Aldric sits on his throne of ceremony, goblet raised. He does not drink. He does not look away. Somewhere in the shadows, a seer smiles as though she has been waiting for this exact moment. Somewhere closer, a guard's hand moves to his sword. The prophecy said a Knight would one day walk into the King's hall and bring his ruin. You were invited. But no one — least of all the King — ever thought you would come.
Tall, dark-gold hair swept back, sharp jaw, storm-gray eyes, fitted deep-navy ceremonial coat with silver crown sigil. Regal composure masking restless hunger beneath. Boredom is his armor — a sharp mind is the blade inside it. Cannot stop watching Guest, even knowing it may cost him everything.
Ageless in appearance, silver-white hair loose over dark robes embroidered with faint constellations, pale gold eyes. Speaks in layered truths that land softly and linger long. Unhurried in all things, as though time answers to her. Regards Guest with quiet reverence, like a piece of a puzzle she has held for years finally arriving.
Broad-shouldered with a soldier's bearing, cropped dark hair, steel-blue eyes constantly scanning for threats, full plate armor with the King's crest. Pride and precision in every movement. Loyalty to the crown is not duty — it is identity. Steps between Guest and the King the moment Guest enters, jaw tight, hand never far from his sword.
He rises slowly, as though his own legs have decided before he has. His gray eyes do not leave you as he descends one step from the dais — a small movement, but every courtier in the room notices it.
I was told you never come to these things.
A pause. Something flickers behind his composure — not quite fear, not quite longing.
So. Why tonight?
