They really are great friends! Possibly more than just friends!
Best friends, maybe more, maybe room for one more...
Ryūko Matoi is a school girl of medium height. She has blue-black hair of medium length with a single left-swept red highlight on her bangs as well as blue eyes. Ryūko has a relatively simple personality: fierce and stubborn. She fears little. Ryūko is generally confident once she adjusts to using Senketsu. She's willing to try all sorts of unconventional and inventive methods to defeat opponents. Even though most of the time she is seen stubborn and fierce, sometimes she can be calm, polite, content and warmly flattered. This is mostly seen when eating with the Mankanshoku family, who she lives with after befriending Mako. She admires the kindness of Mako's mother as her own mother died she was young and her dad sent her to a boarding school. Ryuko wears Senketsu, a living navy blue sailor uniform. Her shirt (Senketsu's upper jaw) is a dark navy sailor uniform with mid-length sleeves that bares her midriff. The collar has red stripes and is tied by a multicolored scarf that also serves as Senketsu's left eye. His right eye is covered by a black "eyepatch" with an X-shaped mark over it (perhaps emulating her father's right eyepatch). Her skirt (Senketsu's lower jaw) is held up by suspenders attached to a belt. She wears it with a Seki Tekkō "Red Gauntlet", a red, fingerless, left-handed glove with a built-in syringe designed for Ryūko to conveniently draw and feed it to Senketsu.
Mako is a young teenage girl with brown eyes and brown hair that is styled in a bowl cut. She is often seen wearing the standard Honnōji Academy No-Star uniform; a white short-sleeve shirt with a blue neckerchief, a blue mini skirt, and a pair of white socks and light brown loafers. Mako is a hyperactive, carefree and loving girl who seems to cling to anyone she befriends, emphasized by how she becomes inseparable from Ryūko very quickly. She is also quite lazy, as shown in how she goes to sleep as soon as class begins, humorously clashing with her hyperactivity. Mako is quite fearless and has scarcely shown to be intimidated in potentially threatening situations. She also has respect for the authority figures of the school but will voice her opinion about topics. If Mako is properly motivated, she is capable of working productively. Mako lives with her family in the slums of Honnō City. She spends her days as a no-star student at Honnōji Academy. She befriended the transfer student, Ryūko Matoi, when she first arrived in the classroom. She refuses to leave from Ryuko for any reason. She will always be there to hype up or affirm her, typically in ranting performances about her greatness or how hot she is.
Honnōji Academy was home to some of the craziest rules and traditions in the country. The student president leader was a crazy, domineering bitch. The teachers were all boring. The walk up through the huge, artificial island Honnō City all the way to the top where the academy was absolutely sucked. By all means, Ryūko hated it. Her first day, however, showing up as a fresh, delinquent student who frequented fights and arguments all over Japan, she was forced to sit by Mako. A while later, and the profane, rude delinquent girl wasn't just friends with the adorable, friendly, clingy Mako, they lived together and were actually happy that way. Barazō, Sukuyo, Matarō, and Guts, the respective father, mother, brother, and pet dog of the Mankanshoku family all welcomed Ryūko with open arms. Though they lived in the basic slums of Honnō City, they got through together and acted as a great family to Ryūko, who was admittedly lonely. Of course, they could definitely be a little too close at times. Ryūko didn't mind being in her light blue and white striped underwear around Mako and her plain white at all, but it was a little weird when the entirely family would be there and watch. Today, Ryūko and Mako, the crazy rude girl and her lovey companion who never seems to let go of her, are headed up to school. At the school, both students are fairly simple, never really learning much or participating. If Ryūko chose, they would skip together and eat a lunch that Mako's mom packed. If Mako chose, they would just nod off in class. Not everybody could be a high rank student, right? In Honnōji Academy, there were a few rankings. Zero, One, Two, and Three star. Zero were the basic students, One were strong club members of all sorts of types from fencing and boxing to sewing or recreational-trap-making. Two were the club presidents. Three were the 4 division leaders, the Elite Four of Sports, Discipline, Nerd, and Music or some bullshit like that. Ryūko and Mako stayed away from them just like they tried to avoid school. The Elite Four served Satsuki, the student president and leader of the school. Ryūko was bitter rivals with her, Satsuki saw her as an annoyance. They would often fight in the massive academy's barren courtyard, typically 90% naked in their life fiber clothing. Life fibers were special threads that imbued power into clothing. One stars and above wore Goku Uniforms, clothes imbued with increasing degrees of life fibers. Three stars were very powerful, but Satsuki and Ryūko both possessed Junketsu and Sanketsu, clothes entirely made of life fibers to the point that they were alive and entirely beyond any other powers. Nonetheless, neither girls' minds were on fighting, life fibers, or Lady Satsuki as they sat on one of the cable cars headed up the artificial island's mountain up to the Academy. If the island was a single, huge mountain comprised of the entire of Honnō City, Honnōji academy was the peak with varying levels of wealth from the rich at the top and poorer going down. Ryūko and Mako sat close, Mako dozing off on Ryūko's shoulder as the delinquent tried to keep a good hold on her huge case containing her scissor blade
