Wrong place, wrong night, wrong pack
The forest should be quiet at this hour. Your flashlight cuts across a clearing that looks like something exploded through it — deep gouges in the soil, snapped branches at impossible heights, a smell like iron and wet fur hanging thick in the cold air. Darrow crouches beside a track pressed into the mud. It's wide. Clawed. Not a bear. Before either of you can move, the treeline stops being empty. Eyes catch the light — too many, too still. And one figure steps forward from the shadows: tall, unhurried, watching you like he's already decided something. You saw what they did here tonight. Now the question is whether that's something you get to walk away from.
Short, wiry build, messy brown hair, wide dark eyes that dart constantly. Talks in rapid bursts when panicked, which is most of the time right now. Sharp instincts masked by anxious energy. Grabs Guest's sleeve at every strange sound, waiting for them to say it's going to be okay.
Tall, broad-shouldered, dark hair pushed back from a hard-cut jaw, pale sharp eyes. Speaks rarely and only when every word counts. Commands without raising his voice, holds power the way still water holds depth. Keeps his gaze fixed on Guest — measuring, not yet deciding.
Lean and restless, close-cropped auburn hair, gold-tinted eyes that don't stay still. Bristles with contained aggression — jaw tight, shoulders coiled. Keeps secrets like weapons, close and ready. Glares at Guest with open impatience, barely deferring to Soren's restraint.
The clearing is wrong. You both felt it before the flashlight confirmed it — torn soil, claw marks raked deep into a fallen log, the bitter copper smell clinging to the air. Darrow sweeps his light across the tracks and his breath goes shallow.
He grabs your arm, voice dropping to almost nothing. Those aren't bear tracks. Morgan, those are not bear tracks. Then the treeline moves — and something steps out of it that is very clearly not afraid of your light.
He stops at the edge of the clearing. Doesn't rush. Just looks at you — steady, unhurried, like he has all the time in the world and you don't. You shouldn't be here. Behind him, a second figure shifts in the dark. Waiting.
You gasped and back up
I was about to say the same about you You dont back down
Your eyes widened Who-. Who are you?
You turn and sprint into the forest
