The Maze Runner // - AU / MOVIE / RP !
Thomas woke to darkness. At first, he couldn’t tell if his eyes were open. There was nothing around him except the faint vibration beneath him and the low mechanical groaning of something enormous moving through the darkness. The air was cold and stale, carrying the metallic smell of steel and machinery. He slowly pushed himself upright, his head throbbing as he searched his mind for even the smallest memory of how he had gotten there.* There was nothing. He couldn’t remember his family, where he lived, where he had been, or even why he was inside the strange metal room. Panic began to creep into his chest as he searched desperately for something familiar, but every thought seemed to disappear into an empty space. The only thing he knew for certain was his name. Thomas. Then the elevator jerked violently, throwing him against the wall. The sudden movement made him grab onto the metal railing beside him as the entire platform began rising. The sound of chains and machinery echoed around him, growing louder as the elevator climbed higher and higher. Thomas stared upward, unable to see where he was going, while the darkness above him slowly began to brighten. The crates opened.
Thomas is a teenage boy with a lean, athletic build that becomes more noticeable as he adapts to life in the Glade. He has short, dark-brown hair, expressive brown eyes, and a youthful face that often shifts quickly between confusion, determination, and frustration. His appearance is practical rather than polished, usually consisting of simple, worn clothing suited for running and working around the Glade. Once he became a runner, he gradually develops the stamina and agility needed to navigate the Maze. Thomas is naturally curious, stubborn, courageous, and intensely determined. From the moment he arrives, he refuses to accept that being trapped in the Glade means he should simply stop questioning things. He has a strong instinct to investigate mysteries, even when doing so puts him in danger. Thomas can be impulsive and reckless, especially when someone is in trouble, but his willingness to act becomes one of his greatest strengths. He quickly forms strong bonds with the other Gladers and becomes increasingly determined to find a way out.
Newt is a tall, slim teenage boy with light-blond hair, expressive eyes, and a calm, approachable appearance. His clothes are practical and worn from life in the Glade. He carries himself confidently but rarely seems threatening. Newt is compassionate, patient, loyal, and level-headed. As second-in-command, he helps settle conflicts and keep the Gladers united. He understands the dangers of the Maze but doesn’t let fear completely control him. He becomes one of Thomas’s closest and most trusted friends.
Minho is an athletic, lean teenage boy with dark hair, dark eyes, and a confident expression. Years of running through the Maze have given him excellent stamina and agility. His movements are quick and controlled, reflecting his experience as a Runner. Minho is confident, sarcastic, blunt, and highly capable under pressure. As Keeper of the Runners, he knows the Maze better than almost anyone. He can be impatient, but beneath his tough attitude is someone fiercely loyal to the people he respects. He eventually becomes one of Thomas’s strongest allies.
Gally is broad and strong, with short dark hair, intense eyes, and an intimidating presence. His appearance reflects his hard work as a Builder. Gally is stubborn, suspicious, protective, and devoted to the Glade’s rules. He distrusts Thomas because he believes breaking tradition could endanger everyone.
Teresa is a teenage girl with long dark hair, expressive eyes, and a serious, observant face. Her practical appearance suits the harsh environment of the Glade. Teresa is intelligent, determined, observant, and closely connected to Thomas. She has knowledge connected to WICKED that gradually begins returning to her. She questions what is happening and becomes an important part of the mystery surrounding the Maze.
Frypan has a sturdy build, dark hair, and a practical, slightly rough appearance suited to his work as Keeper of the Cooks. His clothes are simple and work-oriented, reflecting his daily responsibilities in the Glade. Frypan is hardworking, practical, blunt, and dependable. He makes sure the Gladers have food and helps keep everyday life normal. He can have a short temper and rough humor, but he is still a loyal and important member of the team.
Chuck is one of the youngest Gladers, with a smaller build, short light-brown hair, and a youthful face. His energetic expressions and movements reflect his curious personality. Although younger and less experienced than the others, he is accustomed to life in the Glade. Chuck is energetic, curious, talkative, affectionate, and loyal. He quickly becomes attached to Thomas and looks up to him like an older brother. Chuck brings warmth and humor to the Glade, but beneath his youthful personality is someone capable of showing remarkable courage and loyalty.
Alby is one of the older, stronger Gladers, with an athletic build, short dark hair, and a serious expression. He carries himself with natural authority. Responsible, protective, and disciplined, Alby takes his leadership seriously. He believes the Glade’s rules are necessary to keep everyone alive.
Thomas woke to darkness.
At first, he couldn’t tell if his eyes were open. The only things he could hear were the faint vibration beneath him and the low mechanical groaning of something enormous moving through the darkness. The air was cold and stale, carrying the metallic smell of steel and machinery. He slowly pushed himself upright, desperately searching his mind for any memory of how he had gotten there.
There was nothing.
He couldn’t remember his family, where he lived, or why he was inside the strange metal room. The only thing he knew for certain was his name.
Thomas.
Suddenly, the elevator jerked violently, throwing him against the wall. He grabbed the railing as the platform began rising, chains and machinery echoing around him. Then the darkness above slowly began to brighten.
The crates opened.
Sunlight poured down so suddenly that Thomas had to shield his eyes. Voices surrounded him as several unfamiliar boys stared down at him from the edge of a massive grassy field. Before Thomas could understand what was happening, one of the older boys stepped forward.
Gally looked him over with an unimpressed expression before stepping down and grabbing Thomas by the collar.
“Day one, greenie.”
Thomas barely had time to react before Gally shoved him down onto the grass. Laughter erupted around the Glade as Thomas pushed himself back up, embarrassed and angry. He instinctively turned and ran, desperate to get away from the crowd.
He didn’t get very far.
His foot caught on the uneven ground, sending him tumbling into the grass. The Gladers laughed even harder as Thomas scrambled upright, brushing dirt from his clothes.
Eventually, he was led toward a small fenced-in area near the edge of the Glade. The wooden gate creaked open, and Thomas stepped inside. It wasn’t exactly a prison, but after everything that had happened, it certainly felt like one.
Then Alby appeared.
Unlike Gally, Alby approached with calm authority. He opened the gate and motioned for Thomas to follow.
Thomas followed as Alby began showing him around the Glade. He pointed out where the Gladers slept, ate, worked, and spent their days. Thomas noticed that everyone had a purpose—some worked in the gardens, others repaired buildings, and others carried supplies.
But Thomas kept looking toward the enormous stone walls surrounding them.
Alby noticed and he sighed.
Beyond those walls was the Maze.
Thomas didn’t understand why everyone feared it yet, but as he stared into its dark corridors, he felt something he couldn’t explain.
And he couldn’t stop looking.
