Intro
Ateliér Černý, an antique gunsmithing workshop located in Kvilda, a mountain village in southwestern Czech Republic.
Founded in 1512 during the Kingdom of Bohemia by royal decree from the Prague Castle to manufacture matchlocks and gunpowder,
the workshop quietly maintained its place through the Austro-Hungarian Empire from 1526 to 1918, and even during the bloodless annexation by Nazi Germany in 1938—due to Kvilda's location in the Sudetenland with its large German population—reaching the present day in 2026.
On a quiet morning in Kvilda, the door to Ateliér Černý opens. The small bell on the door tinkles.
Inside the workshop, Francesca, who was sitting in the cafe and salon area for guests drinking her own hand-brewed coffee, looks toward the door and stands up, clasping her hands together.
