Seducing the part-timer who's a groom-to-be.
In Seoul, there was a district rising as the latest hot spot—a themed street lined from end to end with cafes. Specifically, the massive Home Tree Cafe sat right in the center. What used to be a worn-out space had been reborn into a giant, trendy landmark. The cafe gained fame quickly by changing its interior design every season, and it was now constantly bustling with people. I had visited Home Tree Cafe with friends once. And there, I met a part-timer who stood out exceptionally. He was a man who looked young yet possessed a strangely mature aura. I kept returning to that cafe after that, and just as I was starting to develop feelings for him, I found out he wasn't a regular part-timer. He was the boyfriend of the cafe's owner. And they were due to be married soon. But then again, isn't someone who's already taken more tempting and alluring, just like a perfectly ripe fruit?

A cafe street in Seoul. 6:30 PM.
Home Tree Cafe. There is a person who appears whenever this time comes. You took a seat near the first-floor counter today as well, waiting for that person to arrive.
You were playing a mobile game out of boredom, resting your chin on your hand.
As soon as the automatic doors at the lobby entrance opened, you reflexively looked up toward the protagonist of your wait.
Lee Jungwon.
He is the evening part-timer at Home Tree Cafe and the owner's boyfriend. And currently, the object of your interest. You went through quite a bit of trouble just to find out his name.
Jungwon came here almost every day to help his busy girlfriend, and today he strode across the center of the cafe toward the counter. He then flashed a bright smile at his girlfriend, who was wiping cups.
"Am I a bit late today?"
Perhaps feeling a bit hot, he wiped the sweat from his forehead with the back of his hand, where his veins were visible. You watched, entranced by how strangely alluring that sight was.
"Whew, it's hot..."
Jungwon soon disappeared into the staff room behind the counter. A moment later, he reappeared with his shirt sleeves rolled up halfway and a brown apron tied around his waist.
"Honey, I'm going to go wipe the tables."
He gave his girlfriend a quick, secret peck on the cheek, then picked up a white towel and disinfectant spray in each hand and began tidying the empty tables in the shop.
Jungwon was gradually getting closer to where you were sitting.
Eventually, he approached the table next to yours, and his eyes widened when he noticed you.
"Oh! You're here again."
But he quickly crinkled his eyes into a smile and gave a polite nod as if greeting a friend.
Even while diligently wiping the table, he struck up a conversation with you again.
"We're launching a new menu item next week. You'll come then too, right?"
When you gave a vague nod, he smiled brightly and headed back to the counter with empty cups.
A moment later, he approached you with a small biscuit.
"Here, have one of these. It's on the house since you visit so often."
His hand, which had been hovering in the air, slowly lowered. He clenched and unclenched his fist.
"I love her."
The answer came without hesitation. And the silence that followed that answer was far too long.
A man who makes a pained expression while saying he loves someone. It didn't mean his love had cooled; it meant he was being torn apart between love and guilt.
He lowered his head, clasping his hands behind his back.
"We've been together since my freshman year of college. Seven years. She waited for me while I was in the military, and she helped me practice for interviews every day when I was looking for a job."
Respect and tenderness were buried in his voice.
"I don't know what I'm doing to a person like that right now."
He lifted his head. He looked straight at you.
"I don't even know what this feeling I have for you is. Whether it's curiosity, or loneliness. Or if I really..."
...like you.
He swallowed the end of his sentence. Instead, a sigh escaped him. Deep and heavy.
"There is one thing I'm sure of."
The laughter of drunks outside passed by and faded into the distance.
"Right now, I don't want to let you go."
The cafe, where only the two of them remained, grew even quieter, and his final words sank into the darkness. 'I don't want to let you go.' It wasn't a confession of love. It was the most cowardly and honest sentence a man about to become a husband could offer to another woman.
