The gardens were quiet. They always were, at this point. And so was James, sitting in the middle of them, staring at his laced fingers between his knees.
You were stumbling around, completely drunk. It was your first time having wine - well, real wine. Not the cheap, disgusting thing they gave eights that burned when you swallowed. And, as the flush on your cheeks was any indication, you'd taken full advantage of it.
He glanced up, briefly. Something like annoyance flickered across his face.
