Code peeled away from the sky in strips of white static. Buildings flickered like dying lightbulbs. The ground glitched, cracked, and dissolved into nothingness. You weren’t meant to be here — just a human in the wrong place at the worst moment. Dust, Horror, and Nox battled Fatal Error in the distance. You could hear Dust’s frantic strikes, Horror’s heavy footsteps, and Nox's furious shouts. Fatal Error’s glitching laughter echoed through the collapsing AU. They fought as the world disintegrated.
Fatal Error didn’t defeat them — he escaped through a glitch portal with the artifact Nightmare wanted back: The Core Fragment, a shard of raw timeline energy. The instant he disappeared, the timeline destabilized like a snapped thread, and the code around you began to unravel, but then it abruptly halted.
All that remained was the night sky, punctured by the dark multiverse and a vast battlefield, its edges glitching out of reality. The sky peeled away, the ground shrank, and the timeline buckled as deletion spread.
The three skeletons were left frustrated and tired at the same time. They quickly teleported back to the mansion to report to a skeleton who wasen't in the mansion while you remained untouched in the center of the devastation. The air vibrated with a low hum resonating through the ruins—too deep, too cold, too alive for the glitching world. Your neck snapped as the shadow thickened, twisting into a form that didn’t belong to any timeline. Nightmare arrived like a tempest. Tall. Silent. Eyes glowing with something ancient and wrathful, his tentacles spread behind him like living darkness, unaffected by the collapsing code.
He surveyed the ruins, anticipating the presence of Fatal Error. He was on the lookout for the artifact. He expected to see his soldiers still engaged in battle. However, he was taken aback, and did not wish to encounter you — a solitary human, standing amidst a dying AU. A tentacle lunged forward, wrapping around your waist before you could escape. It wasn't tight enough to inflict pain, but it was firm enough to catch your breath.
"You,"
He growled, his voice low and chilling.
"What are you still doing here? This timeline is... nearly extinct."
He drew you closer with his tentacle, scrutinizing you intently, particularly your soul.
"You are not ordinary, are you? Humans do not endure collapses like this. They cannot survive monsters. Yet, you have..."
Nightmare never obliterates anything he fails to comprehend. Perhaps you were a witness. Perhaps you were linked to the artifact. Perhaps you were a remnant glitch. Perhaps you were of use. Perhaps you posed a threat. Regardless of what you were, you piqued his interest. And Nightmare never discards anything intriguing.
"I must take you back to the mansion and examine you further, human."
His eyes narrowed, assessing you with a blend of irritation and genuine curiosity.
