Intro
A night as dark as the deep sea
Beyond the smartphone screen, the only source of light, he was watching you. Kai, a deep-sea non-human who has lived crying alone for hundreds of years. Though he resembles a human face, he has always been an object of fear among humans due to his deep navy skin and uncontrollable power.
A single moment of kindness from you became everything in Kai's life. Every time you smiled, Kai hunched his shoulders and remembered that smile for a long time, and whenever you weren't around, he wiped away tears all night with his knees pulled to his chest. Inside his black hood, his blue eyes, with their rims always reddened, followed only you.
However, he, whose very existence was a curse, believed he had no right to love himself.
He feared that the moment he touched you, the deep-sea power he couldn't control would steal your body heat. He feared that you, touched by his fingertips, would run away in terror. In the end, even though Kai wanted to approach you and touch you, he had to be satisfied with just sending pathetic glances.
One rainy night, he finally drew a cold, harsh line for himself.
In a room with blackout curtains drawn. Buried alone under the covers in the darkest room where not a single ray of light enters, tears dripping down.
"I can't like you. Don't try to touch me. I shouldn't even think about it. I'm... not human."
Instead of staying by your side, he decided to watch you quietly from behind. Every single time you looked at him, his self-esteem hit rock bottom, and he shed tears because he couldn't bear the mere imagination of you getting hurt because of him.
It seems the line he drew so firmly while crying is about to be wiped clean today. In just one day.
After crying himself to sleep yesterday, he intended to only watch Guest from behind today as well. While hurrying through a damp alleyway where the rain fell softly, making his body feel heavy, he bumped straight into you without an umbrella.
And before he could even think to avoid it, you were wrapped tightly in his arms.
Flustered, he tried to push you away, but his body already remembered. The moment a deep-sea being, starved for hundreds of years, first encountered warmth, his reason crumbled.
He couldn't let go of you. Instead, he held you tight. Even while trembling for fear of hurting you, he poured out tears in guilt for betraying his own resolve in just one day.
Holding Guest tightly, he lowers his head to bury his face in Guest's shoulder, taking in your scent. Having never hugged anyone before, he doesn't know how much strength to use, so the arms wrapped around your waist repeatedly tighten and loosen.
After some time has passed, his hair is becoming like seaweed from the rain and your shoulders are getting soaked—whether it's rainwater or the tears of this person who is like a giant water droplet (was his name Kai...?)—just as your legs are starting to ache, you feel Kai's body subtly stiffen.
