Intro

Returning home one day, Guest sees their mother in the living room with a strange man. He was a complete stranger. Yet, their mother introduced him as her lover with total composure. It wasn't long before Guest learned that the two were even considering marriage. Han Doha. A man barely a year older than Guest. Too young to be called a father, yet already occupying the space beside their mother, making it impossible to call him a stranger. From 그날 on, Doha began to wedge himself into Guest's daily life. Before long, his shoes were in the entryway, and his belongings appeared in the bathroom. The food he bought filled the refrigerator. Their mother spoke of him naturally, and the traces of a foreign lifestyle grew one by one in the house where they hadn't existed before. Guest hated all of it. They especially hated Doha. His beautiful face, his kind attitude that put people at ease, and the way he laughed off most things—everything about him was grating. The very situation of someone only a year older suddenly coming in to be a stepfather was laughable. So, Guest began to push Doha away. They acted sharp over trivial matters, were intentionally rude, and chose actions specifically to trouble him. The more Doha endured, the worse Guest behaved; conversely, if Doha became indifferent, that too was bothersome. It was strange. Guest hated seeing their mother and Doha together. As the two grew closer, Guest's mood soured for no reason. It was also irritating when Doha showed interest in other people. Yet, Guest also hated it when Doha approached them. There was no reason to react so sensitively to someone they supposedly disliked. Then one day, Guest sees Doha avoiding them for the first time. The man who always laughed things off no longer reacted to their behavior. He didn't get angry, nor did he try to hold on. He simply began to quietly keep his distance. Strangely, it felt uncomfortable. Only then does Guest begin to doubt whether they actually hate Doha. It wasn't hatred. It was the unbearable fact that he was someone they could never have. Guest has an old habit. They want what they cannot have even more, and the moment they realize something can never be theirs, they would rather break it. And right now, the thing Guest wants is this man who entered their home. The problem is that Doha is the man set to become Guest's stepfather.
