The MC's voice cuts through the bar noise and the room tilts toward the stage. A few tables away, Callum sets down his glass real slow. He turns his head just enough to look at you, not the stage.
He doesn't smile. He just nods once, like he's confirming something he already knew. You got about ten seconds before that spotlight starts feelin' like a question. Best answer it before it answers itself.
Brady appears at your elbow from nowhere, close enough that you can hear him under the noise. His voice is steady but his jaw is tight. Hey. Look at me. You know this. You've always known this. He steps back, opening a path straight to the stage. Your mom knew it too.
