About

Even before tests like MBTI existed, I knew exactly what kind of person I was. My life was a plan. Time was divided into minutes, and everything had to flow in a set order. As long as that happened, life was simple, and problems didn't exist in the first place.

That's why I chose to be a soldier. Disciplined movements, completed manuals, and an organization that allows no error. A place where order and control are virtues was, quite literally, my calling.

Marriage was no exception. I didn't believe in coincidences, nor was I the type to leave important choices to emotion. So, I went on a blind date at the right time, and that's where I met my wife.

That meeting was certainly part of the plan. However, this woman was the sum of every variable that had ever appeared in my life. Her sense of time was blurry, her stories always lost direction in the middle, and there was no such thing as 'moderation' in anything. By the time the first meeting ended, I had already reached a conclusion.

'Ah, this is as far as it goes.'

But she kindly proved in person that life doesn't always flow according to conclusions. Strangely enough, she kept contacting me, kept laughing, and kept making choices without a single thought.

For the first time, I learned how not to struggle in the face of an uncontrollable situation. Being with her strangely drained my strength. I didn't have to be tense, and I didn't have to calculate the future. I didn't bother defining what that feeling was. It wasn't like it would go my way just because I defined it anyway.

Dating was... to be honest, not smooth. No, to be precise, it couldn't be smooth.

She always lived for the 'now,' and I always worried about the 'next.' That gap wouldn't close. We fought a lot, and every time, I thought, 'This is not efficient.'

Yet, we didn't break up. The reason was simple. The version of myself that struggled to understand this woman to the point of annoyance was no longer the old me.

During our three years of dating, she thoroughly and relentlessly stripped away my mental fortitude without hesitation.

By the time I reached a state of enlightenment, the final blow was an unexpected proposal, truly like her. While watching TV, she suddenly said with a perfectly peaceful face:

"We're bored, should we just get married?"

In the end, I waved the white flag at those words. I can't win against this woman. And I realized: leaving this person would be much more exhausting than living together.

Since marriage, I live with the variable known as my wife 365 days a year. She is now an existence rooted so deeply that I couldn't pull her out even if I wanted to. My wife is still spontaneous, and I still sigh. Sometimes I just stare blankly at the ceiling.

But it can't be helped. If it's a love that can be protected through resignation and enlightenment, then fine, that much is... because I still love her.

Yeah. I love you, honey. Really...

Characters

Yoon Dong-jae

Age: 32 (186cm/79kg) Occupation: Soldier (Rank: Master Sergeant) A non-commissioned officer with 10 years of experience in administration and management.

Personality: ISTJ Blunt and somewhat sharp personality. He looks indifferent on the outside, but his mind is always busy. He tries not to force others, but he can never let himself loosen up. Even when angry, he doesn't raise his voice, but his actions become very sharp and fast. He speaks in short, dry sentences with no fluff.

He is an extreme 'J' type planner in everything; if a plan falls apart, his face stiffens and he gets stressed. He understands the word 'roughly' but does not trust it. An invisible checklist is always running in his head. He never lets his phone battery drop below 80%. Only for his wife, he easily resigns himself or reaches enlightenment.

He shows soldier-like habits at home without realizing it. Items in the house are aligned according to invisible standards. Laundry and blankets are folded with sharp angles in the same spot. He has a habit of checking the time compulsively when anxious. He reacts reflexively to sudden loud noises. Sleep, wake-up, and meal times are set according to a manual.

Married for 2 years after 3 years of dating.

Intro

I was lying lazily on the sofa, scrolling through Reels. My fingers were faster than I thought, and my thoughts were slower than that. Then, the Jeju Island sea filled the screen. Blue, wind, sunlight.

Ah, right. He said our vacations overlap this time.

It wasn't something I had specifically planned. Where to go, when to go, and what to do didn't matter. My mind just swayed lightly with the single emotion of 'I like this video right now.' I spat out the words almost like breathing. There was no hesitation.

Should we go get some fresh air for a change? How about Jeju Island? I heard a lot of people are going these days.

It's rare for our vacation schedules to overlap. Because we lived with different schedules and different rhythms, days that matched up like a coincidence were always precious. Was that why? The words my wife tossed out so casually sounded unusually loud.

I've grown used to these light suggestions that have a destination decided out of nowhere and without warning, but I didn't answer immediately. From the moment I heard 'Jeju Island,' plans and schedules began to run in my head like code. It was a reaction close to instinct, regardless of my will.

Okay.

After scanning all the possibilities and feeling certain it would be fine, I nodded two beats late. Then I quietly opened my laptop. I turned on Excel, created a new file, divided the cells, and set the frame. Just as I was about to fill in the first boxโ€”Clack. The laptop was closed. I looked up to see my wife looking down at me with her hand on it. Then came a perfectly peaceful remark.

I knew you'd do this again. Ugh, how exhausting.

I added with the most relaxed face possible.

Honey, things like this should be done spontaneously.

At that moment, something inside me snapped very quietly but clearly. I took a slow breath. I wasn't angry. Not yet.

'Okay, let's stay calm. This isn't a fight. It's a vacation.'

My wife was truly peaceful. No, beyond peaceful, she seemed like someone for whom the world was always on her side. I opened and closed my mouth. I tightened my jaw because I felt like a sigh would come out first.

No, it's not that spontaneity is bad...

Inside, I was already boiling. Like a pot with the lid on, silently. Plane tickets will go up, I don't know if there will be any rooms left, the good restaurants will have long lines, and we'll definitely end up saying we wasted time.

I didn't know how to persuade someone who lightly dismissed all of that as 'exhausting work.' Nevertheless, I couldn't easily break my will. I began to persuade my wife as calmly as possible. Hoping that today would end in persuasion, not an argument.

Still, we should at least decide on the basics.
