About

Story (The one I was making, for now).

The twin sisters, mirroring each other in looks, were always close.

"We'll be together forever, okay!"

"Hehe, Sis, you dummy. You know that without me saying it."

The two children laugh happily together.

Their parents passed away early, so they couldn't afford luxuries.

Even so, the time they spent together was undoubtedly happy.

"What should we do today? Want to play tag?"

"Ehh, that's tiring, I don't want to. Let's play hide-and-seek~."

"Hmm... Oh! Then let the butterflies decide!"

"Agreed. I'm sure the butterflies want to play hide-and-seek too."

Monochrome butterflies always danced around them.

It wasn't that they were born with a constitution that attracted butterflies;

rather, the insects started following them around the time their parents died.

At first, they thought it was creepy, but now they are completely their friends.

The butterflies dance. They gather on each girl's shoulder as if answering the call.

"Ehehe, I win! So, tag it is! DELETED is 'it'!"

Sis ran off before she even finished speaking. DELETED dashed out in a panic.

"Hey, Sis! Wait!!"

They ran around the village, giggling.

"Oh my, they're energetic again today."

"Really, they get along so well."

The villagers couldn't help but smile watching the two play so happily.

The devoted and innocent pair were loved by everyone in the village.

They were just a pair of twins who got along well.

—Yes, they were just a pair of twins who got along well. ... It must have been the night of their 10th birthday.

In a single night, the village was destroyed.

By a death curse that suddenly manifested.

"My... head... aah...!"

Sis clutched her head, her face pale.

Monochrome flowers bloomed in profusion, indiscriminately draining the life force of everyone nearby.

Of course, it happened regardless of her will.

Reality ruthlessly eroded the life around her.

—Meanwhile.

DELETED was skipping on her way home, dangling a bag with a cake inside.

"Hehe, I can't wait to eat cake together. It's our birthday, after all."

It was money DELETED had secretly saved. A surprise.

"Hum-hum... Hmm?"

She thought she smelled something. A burnt scent... and a crisp fragrance.

...She had a bad feeling.

When she rushed back to the village, DELETED was speechless at the devastation.

The village was burning, and monochrome flowers she had never seen before were blooming.

"...What?"

Dropping the cake she bought, she searched.

For her other half, Sis.

"Hah... hah... Sis... Sis!!"

She dove into the fire, running single-mindedly.

Every time she saw a fallen villager or a monochrome flower, nausea welled up.

And the further she went, the heavier her body became.

It wasn't fatigue. It felt as if her very life was being sucked out.

At the end of her run, she found a white figure huddled down.

There was no mistaking it. It was Sis.

"Sis!!"

Her body was heavy. The flowers were blooming centered around Sis.

"Don't... come... DELETED...!"

Her body grew even heavier, as if gravity had increased.

"Sis... stop... it!"

She screamed as if pleading.

"I... can't... it's too much... DELETED... run...!"

Her body felt like lead. Even so, DELETED moved forward, half-crawling.

"You said... we'd be together... forever...!"

"Aah, aaaaaaaaaah!!"

One, two... monochrome flowers began to bloom around Sis in numbers too tedious to count.

An aura of death so thick it felt like space itself was warping covered the area.

"Ugh..."

DELETED coughed up blood. She was near her limit.

"Please... hold on...!"

She crawled. Just a little further to Sis.

"Uaaaaah!! Nooooooo!!"

Sis's pained voice echoed. The aura of death grew stronger by the second.

"Wake... up...!!!"

DELETED mustered her last bit of strength and reached out to Sis.

...The hand she extended cut through empty air.

"...Ah."

...DELETED's flame of life was blown out. Just one step away.

She collapsed heavily to the ground. Even so, her fingertips touched Sis for just a fleeting moment.

"Hi...!?"

In that instant, as if the rampage had stopped, Sis's eyes regained focus.

The aura of death receded.

And the first thing that met Sis's eyes was... DELETED lying atop the flowers.

"...DELETED...?"

Even when shaken or having her cheeks pinched, there was no reaction.

"DELETED!? DELETED!!"

There was no answer. That peaceful face would never move again.

She looked around. It was a literal picture of hell.

"This... all of this... I..."

Cruelly, despite having no sense of self at the time, the memories of the rampage remained like a video recording.

Information flooded into her brain.

She wanted to reject it. ...She couldn't.

"Aah... aah...!!! AAAAAAAAAAH!!"

Sis went mad from the weight of her sin. She wailed like a lunatic.

...Eventually, she fell into hyperventilation.

Blood stopped flowing to her brain. Her consciousness faded.

...Footsteps. They stopped right behind her.

"...Commence."

Sis collapsed.

"Huh... where am I..."

Looking around, everywhere except for where Sis was sitting was a darkness surrounded by rocks, like a cave.

Monochrome flowers were at her feet. Sis thought they were beautiful.

"...Wait?"

She couldn't remember anything.

Not her name, nor where this was.

It was as if a fog had settled over her memories.

Sis had no way of knowing how long she had been sleeping here.

Her body had grown a size or two larger, but she didn't mind at all.

When she touched her head, she found it wrapped in bandages.

The moment she slipped her finger between the bandages to peel them off, she was struck by an indescribable pain.

"Guh... ah...!?"

She let go immediately. Many things concerned her, but she decided not to pursue this further.

Sis stood up and began to explore the surroundings.

However, there was no light outside of where she had been; it was darkness all around.

"...It's a little scary."

Suddenly, a butterfly caught her eye. A monochrome butterfly of a color she had never seen.

"Eek...!? What is this butterfly..."

She thought it was creepy.

The butterfly flew around Sis. One landed on the tip of her nose.

"H-Hey... that tickles...!"

"Were you here too?"

She asked. There was no answer. Yet, she sensed it wasn't a bad presence.

"...Are the other butterflies coming too?"

As if in response, butterflies began to flutter around Sis.

"...Oh, fine then."

Sis left the light and began walking along the walls.

"Hmm, there really is nothing... Whoa!"

Thud.

There was a man-sized hole in the wall.

Because the wall she was leaning on suddenly vanished, Sis fell over.

"Ouch... wait?"

As she stood up rubbing her body, a long stone staircase stretched out before her.

Looking up, she could see light.

"...It's the outside!"

Sis ran up.

"Hah, hah... it's long..."

As expected, her body was honest.

She collapsed before she was even halfway up.

"Haa... haa... I'm tired... it's too long..."

She focused on catching her breath, breathing heavily.

As her breathing stabilized, something suddenly caught her eye.

"...? What's this... It's pretty!"

It was a glass-like shard with a purple and blue gradient.

It floated a few centimeters off the ground.

An obviously strange existence.

Sis's mental age was still 10.

Curiosity won out, and she grabbed it without hesitation.

In that instant, a dazzling light overflowed from the glass shard.

"!? What... is this...!!"

Information flowed into her brain. She heard a mysterious voice. A flat voice of a girl different from Sis.

"YOUR NAME IS SIS."

"YOU ARE NOW 16 YEARS OLD."

"Huh... My name is Sis. And I'm 16."

"YOU HAVE BEEN SLEEPING SINCE YOU WERE 10. SLEEPYHEAD."

"Since I was 10? Wait, you're kidding..."

The voice cut off, and the glass shard shattered.

"Hey, calling me a sleepyhead... how rude!!"

Though she huffed in annoyance, Sis believed the information. Her honesty was still intact.

If she held those shards, a little bit of her memory would return. Sis learned this.

"I wonder if there are more. I want to properly remember what I forgot."

Sis stood up and climbed the stairs.

Unnaturally, there was a shard every time Sis got tired.

"Sis was an active child," or "Her favorite animals are dogs, especially big ones."

There was information related to Sis herself, and information that was truly trivial.

Midway through, Sis named them Memory Fragments.

...Now, the outside was close.

"Haa, haa. I finally made it...!"

Stepping outside, she found an unpaved road continuing through a vast meadow.

From the information in the collected Memory Fragments, Sis understood most of the facts about herself.

...However, there were things that hadn't been revealed.

Was it intentional? She couldn't obtain information that touched upon the core.

Details about that place, why she was lying there.

Also, about the death curse.

"Well, to summarize, it's like this, right?"

"I'm a 16-year-old girl named Sis, and I'm energetic!"

"My mom and dad died, and I've worked hard to live!"

...And about her other twin half.

In Sis's mind, the image of a person who lost her parents early and lived self-sufficiently was complete.

As if DELETED never existed.

A failed work I got bored with. It wasn't something meant for Zeta. Also, I'm just bad at writing simple scripts.
