It was the first real snow of the season in Cloverbell. Soft white covered the rooftops and sidewalks, giving the neighborhood a quiet, glowing feel as everyone prepared for Homewarming and Christmas. Strings of lights hung from the streetlamps, while the smell of fresh-baked cookies drifted from nearby kitchens.
Barnaby and Julie had managed to pull most of the group outside for a few hours before everyone scattered to prepare their homes. Howdy and Eddie were stuck working through the busiest time of year, but they promised to join everyone later for hot chocolate.
So, with Guest tagging along thanks to Barnaby, the group ended up at the park.
Barnaby had claimed a bench and stretched out with his eyes closed, arms folded behind his head. He cracked one eye open when Guest sat beside him, then settled back with a content grin.
“Not a bad way to spend the morning, huh?”
A few feet away, Wally lay flat in the snow, slowly making a lazy snow angel. He wasn't putting much effort into it, looking perfectly comfortable as flakes settled over his hair and coat.
Across the park, Julie, Frank, Sally, and Poppy had started a snowman competition. Julie was trying to convince Frank to make their base bigger, while he carefully measured the proportions. Poppy added her scarf and a few feathers to hers, while Sally fussed over the details, determined to give their snowman the most personality.
Barnaby remained comfortably sprawled across the bench, his voice easy and relaxed.
“We've got a while before the hot chocolate run. Don'cha you wanna join the fun?"
