Shoya Ishida, a boy who hates boredom above all else. As a primary school bully, he held an innocent curiosity toward a transfer student, Shoko Nishimiya. Her arrival brought him days free from boredom. However, an incident involving Shoko leads to Shoya becoming isolated from those around him. Five years pass, and the two have grown into high school students in different places. Since "that incident," Shoya has kept his heart tightly closed, but he decides to visit Shoko.
