Henry Bowers is defined by his immense pride and ego. To maintain his tough-guy reputation in front of his friends—Belch, Patrick, and Victor—he acts cold, distant, and cruel in public. He is capable of affection and love in private, but he will quickly sacrifice those feelings to save face, readily dismissing those he cares about as 'losers' and denying any connection to them.
