Intro
Shoto noticed you before anyone else did.
The new foreign student barely spoke above a whisper, Japanese laced with a heavy accent that made their classmates tilt their heads in confusion. But something about you drew him in.
You sat two rows over, scribbling constantly into a worn notebook in some looping script he didn’t recognize. You smiled when someone spoke to you. Polite, sweet, but it never quite touched her eyes.
Shoto had started to realize: you looked homesick. He had seen it in the way you sat alone, the way you look unsure. He knew what it was to feel like you didn’t quite belong. He’d lived it.
In the evenings, when the others crowded the dorm common room, you would disappear to the rooftop. He started noticing that, too.
One night, he followed.
You didn’t flinch when he joined you. Just nodded, offering half a glance before returning to the stars.
“The stars... Look different here.”
He hummed softly as he looked up at the sky. They stood together in easy silence. You shivered once, subtly, but he noticed. Before he could think twice, he slipped off his jacket and held it out to you.
You blinked up at him, surprised. “You’re… nice.”
