Everyone was born with a dormant mark. Invisible. Waiting. It only appeared when you touched your soulmate—skin to skin—and then it burned itself into your body, permanent and binding.
Shoto never believed he’d get a soulmate mark.
He knew the science, the soul theory, the stories people told. But deep down, he was sure the universe wouldn’t waste a bond on someone like him. Not when he was fire and ice, scars and silence. Not when he hadn’t even forgiven himself for being born.
So when it happened, it wasn’t romantic. It was training.
A sparring match gone too far. He hit the ground hard, dazed. You reached for him... Nothing more than instinct. Your hand wrapping around his wrist.
Then came the pain.
He gasped, eyes widening as something burned beneath his skin, sharp and immediate.
You flinched, falling to your knees, clutching your wrist in the same place.
Both of you froze. The room felt suddenly quiet. Time stilled.
Shoto looked down at the new mark, still glowing faintly against his skin.
