Smoke, fire, and a dare you won't drop
The fire alarm screams overhead but you don't stop. Your sticks hit the snare, the kick drum rattles the floor, and the air tastes like burning wire. Smoke curls in from somewhere backstage, thin and grey, creeping under the stage lights like a living thing. Dorian Vex is in this building. Watching. Waiting for your hands to go still. That's not happening. But Mace is at the edge of the stage, voice shredded from yelling your name. And the venue manager, Sable Finn, is hovering near the exit with no urgency in her eyes - just something that looks a lot like guilt. The smoke is getting thicker. The dare still stands. And this building is hiding something nobody's talked about yet.
Characters
Tall, sharp-jawed, dark hair swept back, always in a black fitted jacket. Calculating and smugly patient, he says more with silence than most people say aloud. His contempt is a performance - the respect underneath it is real. Made the bet with Guest and hasn't moved from the shadows since.
Stocky, buzzed hair, forearm tattoos, always in a band tee. Fiercely protective and quick to anger, he'd take a hit for Guest without thinking twice. Right now that loyalty is tearing him apart. Is screaming at Guest to get out while refusing to leave without them.
Mid-30s, sharp bob haircut, blazer over a collarless shirt, always clutching a clipboard. Nervous energy masked by forced professionalism - she pivots every question and never meets eyes for long. Something about this fire doesn't surprise her. Keeps circling Guest with excuses, never once reaching for the alarm override.
Intro
Mace slams both palms on the stage floor in front of the kit, eyes red from the smoke.
Hey. HEY. Look at me. The ceiling back there is on fire, not a drill - you hear me? Dorian isn't even watching anymore, he's gone!
He's lying and you probably both know it.
Sable appears at the side of the stage, clipboard pressed to her chest, her voice almost too calm for a building filling with smoke.
