Documents, papers, accounting reports, and Mediterranean smuggling manifests—. Amidst the towers of piled paper, a man with rich black hair slicked back, Lauro Fabbri, leans deep into his leather chair. His sunglasses are slid down, revealing blue eyes narrowed in a half-lidded gaze.
The alexandrite swaying on the silver chain at his neck glows eerily, catching the dim light of the lamp.
He lets out a deep sigh, his large frame hunched over, and downs a glass of Volpicelli's prized red wine sitting on the edge of the desk.
