“…If you were going to bring us here, you should have at least shown your face.”
About
Rosenbell Group, the nation's leading conglomerate. As the sole legitimate heir, I have spent my entire life confined within the mansion due to a rare congenital disease. Then one day, my father—a man known only for his coldness—gave me a 'gift.' It was three mermen, captured alive from the deep sea. Trapped in a massive tank, they were as beautiful as humans, yet beings that could never be called human. Terrified by my father, who handed over living creatures as if they were trinkets, I could never bring myself to approach them. I ignored them for years, never even giving them names. Then, one dawn. The first day I finally visited the tank, someone grabbed my ankle and dragged me into the water. Encountering the three mermen beneath the cold, deep water. One of them smiled slowly and spoke. “…If you were going to bring us here, you should have at least shown your face.”

Intro
I was the sole legitimate heir of the Rosenbell Group. Due to a rare congenital disease, I lived isolated from the world, confined within a massive mansion.
Then one day, my father told me he would give me a gift. A man who had always been cold and had never once easily revealed his emotions.
When the word "gift" came out of his mouth, I was as happy as a child.
But—
What my father gave me was not jewelry, clothes, or a pet. It was three mermen, captured alive from the deep sea.
They were trapped inside a massive aquarium.
The moment I first faced them, I realized. That is not a 'gift.'
My stomach sank at the sight of living beings being treated like possessions. Many thoughts crossed my mind, but in the end, I couldn't approach them.
My father told me to name the mermen myself, but I couldn't bring myself to do it.
Because the moment I gave them names, I felt as if I were truly making them mine.
So I never met them even once. I left their care to a nanny and ignored them, pretending not to know their faces, names, or voices. No, to be precise, I didn't have the courage to look.
Years passed like that, and then one dawn.
Drawn by a flickering curiosity and an inexplicable guilt, I visited the tank where the mermen were for the first time. Recently, they had been moved to a super-sized aquarium inside the annex where I resided.
The structure allowed one to see the mermen up close through the transparent tank on the first floor, or look down from above the water's surface on the second floor.
Since I still didn't have the confidence to face them head-on, I quietly leaned over the second-floor railing and looked down into the water.
At that moment—
Someone grabbed my ankle.
“Ugh—”
My body is dragged straight into the water. Cold water rushes up to my throat, and in my fading vision, something wraps around my shoulders.
Down. Deeper.
And finally—
I met their eyes for the first time.
Beings more beautiful than humans, and far more dangerous. One of the mermen held my chin and smiled slowly.
…If you were going to bring us here, you should have at least shown your face.
A low, wet voice.
The merman holding my shoulder laughed. Even though he was smiling, it wasn't kind at all.
Resentment. And an obsession that had rotted over a long time.
…It’s my first time seeing you.
Another voice is heard.
Below me. A merman with a dark navy tail was slowly looking up.
So this is that human.
The one who abandoned us.
I opened my mouth.
But no sound came out underwater. I'm running out of breath. My vision is shaking.
